Miley Cyrus Writes Heartfelt Letter to Hannah Montana

On the Disney show’s 15th anniversary, Miley thanks her alter ego.

Wednesday, March 24, marked the 15th anniversary of the Hannah Montana premiere on Disney Channel – if you’ll believe it. The show was hugely popular and entertaining, with occasional appearances by Dolly Parton, but it’s best known for introducing us to Miley Cyrus as an actress and singer. Hannah Montana launched Cyrus to success, and as Cyrus began navigating her relationship with fame in real life, her onscreen character struggled to do the same. Masquerading as pop sensation Hannah Montana part-time, the TV Miley attended school during the day, seeking “the best of both worlds.”

Since the show ended in 2011, Cyrus’s career has been full of studio albums and some of the most discussed performances in recent years. She proved her versatility, moving from country music to provocative pop and, most recently, her classic rock sound. She became so successful and so productive that it was easy to forget her roots as the star of Hannah Montana. Yet, Miley made it clear she has never forgotten, and on Wednesday, she shared a message for her blonde alter ego. “Breathing life into you for those 6 years was an honor,” Cyrus wrote. “I am indebted not only to you Hannah but to any + everyone who believed in me from the beginning.”

It seems that Cyrus has been feeling nostalgic lately; her Instagram feed has heavily featured memories of her childhood and her time working on the show. The photos offer a glimpse into the world of 2000’s fashion and Hannah Montana’s heyday. She also posted an adorable clip of her younger self singing Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock and Roll.” Jett features on Cyrus’s most recent album Plastic Hearts, and the two performed together at this year’s Super Bowl Sunday pre-show event. The younger Cyrus likely could not have imagined that moment, but she certainly would have been proud.
