Miley Says Goodbye to Liam Hemsworth in New Breakup Track
“Slide Away” is a far cry from “When I Look at You”.
As details continue to emerge about Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus’ tragic breakup, Miley’s added to the narrative with a brand new single. Following her semi-official statement on Instagram, she addresses the split in “Slide Away”.
The questionable choice of photo for the audio video—bottles of pills and alcohol floating in a pool—along with the lyrics I want my house in the hills/Don’t want the whiskey and pills, seem to uphold the rumors that Miley was upset with Liam’s alleged partying habits. The line also seems to allude to the loss of the couple’s Malibu house in the California Wildfires of 2018.
We all remember how Miley and Liam fell in love on the set of The Last Song in 2009, which Miley seems to directly reference in what might be the most heartbreaking line in the song: Move on we’re not seventeen/I’m not who I used to be.
More sad details are sure to follow the song, but if you want to remember the happy times after hearing “Slide Away”, we’ll always have “Malibu” and “When I Look At You”.
