Missoni Shows off Edgier Side in Fall 2022 Collection
Missoni blends the past with the future in their edgier Fall/Winter 2022 collection.
Filling up a sports arena is no easy feat, but that’s exactly what Missoni did with their Fall/Winter 2022 ready-to-wear show at Milan Fashion Week. With a futuristic runway complete with giant, ever-changing LED cubes and a bold new collection, Missoni certainly put on a show.
Missoni has long been seen as a creative, playful force in the fashion industry, and this collection proves why. With experimentations in color, textures, and silhouettes, the show stood out against the monotonous, monochromatic looks that have taken over the runway in recent years.
In fact, Missoni’s collection is a colorful blend of past and present. Filled with bright prints, including the classic stripes and zig zags that the brand is known for, as well as skin-baring tops and dresses, Missoni pays homage to their roots while looking ahead to their future with the new collection.
Since taking over as an interim Creative Director in Summer 2021, Alberto Caliri has pushed Missoni towards its new, less inhibited style. The brands’ transition into edgier, streetwear inspired pieces has shown us that Caliri, who worked as Angela Missoni’s right-hand man for over 12 years, is not playing around in his new role.
Missoni’s Spring 2022 RTW collection was the first for the brand under Caliri, and that collection focused on skintight miniskirts and low cut tops, something that was replicated in his Fall/Winter collection. Occasional strips of skin showing under blazers and knits morphed into full bikini looks with wool bourgeois coats overtop.
Moving away from the multicolor stripes, much of the collection features bright pops of red and yellow, as well as the strategic placement of sequins. Lurex, suede, and knit clashed with sweatpants and leather, making the runway a cacophony of textures and colors, in tune with the eye-catching LED screens.
The show featured several familiar faces, including Iris Law in a sequined black dress with a sweetheart neckline, and Eva Herzigova in a multicolor lurex dress.
