Miu Miu Unveils a New Female-Empowered Short Film: “NIGHTWALK”

The latest addition to the Italian label’s short-film series.

Miu Miu just unveiled the next development in their highly-acclaimed short-film series, The Miu Miu Women’s Tales, which showcases today’s most prominent, change-making female directors and their influence on society. The label’s latest film, dubbed “NIGHTWALK”, investigates modern femininity through the electric excitement that comes along a journey of self-discovery. Miu Miu held an official screening for the Malgorzata Szumowska-directed film last night in New York City at the Village East Cinema, where a crowd of influential filmgoers digested the short film’s empowered message first-hand.

“The inspiration for ‘NIGHTWALK’,” reveals Szumowska, “is my friend Filip Rutkowski. He’s genderqueer, and he expresses himself by wearing women’s clothes. In Poland—a conservative, Catholic country—Filip is extremely brave.”  Expounding on her inspirations, Szumowska claimed that Filip’s love of Miu Miu was the ideal starting point for her story. As a female director, Szumowska has had “to fight all my life to do what I do,” and believes that Miu Miu Women’s Tales show how “you can use fashion to do something important, that supports women, and promotes tolerance.”

After the film’s debut, Miu Miu hosted a celebratory dinner and after-party at Ludlow House with notable guests including Anna Baryshnikov, Raffey Cassidy, Nesta Cooper, Dane DeHaan, Hailey Gates, Molly Gordon, Ella Hunt, Martha Hunt, Marlo Kelly, Jemima Kirke, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Zosia Mamet, Selah Marley, Sonoya Mizuno, Hadley Robinson, Filip Rutkowski, Chloe Sevigny, Olympia Scarry, Alexandra Shipp, Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, Anna Wood, Chase Sui Wonders, and Constance Wu.
