Deviating from the norm, MM6 Maison Margiela introduced a new brand identity for Spring/Summer 2024, bringing forth a reimagined everyday uniform, creating a collection percolated in edgy formalwear. The collection embraces and explores the theme of motion: defining pieces of clothing with garments suited for manual labor. The brand’s individuality was caught through every item, from a plunging bodysuit and exaggerated-oversized trousers to classic silver hardware fastening belts and adorning the collection’s bags and jewelry.

This new uniform is done up with deconstruction to assemble reenergized silhouettes. Pockets are placed to interpret staples such as the butcher apron and the lab coat, positioned low on gilets and trousers to illustrate an extended crotch. House codes are embodied by ribbons, slits, full side openings, and ties are delicately placed. Garments are experimental, playing with length and width via exceptionally long vests, lengthened tailored jackets, and wrap-around trousers.

Workwear is fronted in forceful blazers, denim, robust canvas, and pragmatic polycotton, and T-shirts with six patch pockets indicate a number of manual actions, simultaneous with the slip dresses trimmed to form one-shouldered aprons for functional use. The show’s invitation was imprinted onto sheared tees and willful hoodies. Non-traditional jewelry is vested in stamps, and jingling keys take the place of earrings.

Washed-out leather is in the shape of long shorts and lavish vests, giving a new twist on classic leather staples. Traditional uniform essentials are in dark grey hues and white pinstripe. Elsewhere, vibrant splashes of cobalt blue are coated in a patent leather skirt and sharp-collared button-up.

Footwear includes round-toe boots and Mary Janes fit for kitchen safety, as well as anatomic toe clogs, and a new iteration of the Salomon Mary Janes. Drastically sized paper bags and handbags that doubled as vests were inducted into the collection.

In an interesting ode to summer, melted candle wax dripped from necklaces, earrings, and a sheer sleeveless top, making for a loud statement in recognition of a humid season.
