Moncler Genius Releases Simone Rocha Collaboration

After its unveiling earlier this year, Moncler Genius is releasing its second line for sale from collaborater Simone Rocha today, July 2nd.

Back in February, Moncler Genius unveiled the second generation of its collaborations with an exhibition in Milan. The Genius project started with Moncler’s CEO, Remo Ruffini, who wanted to revolutionize the existing fashion model. The brand fuses 8 creative directors under one brand’s voice, ignoring the traditional method of bi-yearly, seasonal releases. Early last month, Moncler Genius dropped its Palm Angels collection from designer Francesco Ragazzi. Today marks the second release from its most recent collaboration generation: Simone Rocha, with whom they created 4 Moncler Simone Rocha.

Simone Rocha based this collection in nature. Rocha said of her work in a statement, “The set is outdoors—they are in a forest of silver birch trees—and I was thinking about Girl Guides protecting themselves against nature . . . the idea of camping and tents almost becomes their protection.” She emulates this concept through a lens of contemporary femininity and expert construction. Using ultra lightweight nylon, taffeta, PVC, and tulle, Rocha adorned massive forms with floral prints and embroideries. She uses the Moncler signature down fabrication to build out her designs. Many are angular and jut beyond the natural silhouettes, cushioning the body from head to toe. Rocha said in a statement, “It has been an amazing opportunity to work with Moncler experts in their field and to explore the classic down fabrication in new ways with the Simone Rocha aesthetic. Fabrication and how it is manipulated and developed is a very important part of the design process for me.”
