Embracing the playful side of fashion through the lens of costuming, the Moschino Spring 2019 collection is ready-to-wear at its wildest. For this season, scribbles and doodles told the color story of the collection, full of rich reds, pastel blues, and bright pinks. Imagine taking a big marker and coloring in dresses, jackets, and bags—even the stockings of models were scribbled on with black, giving the illusion of marked up legs. Amping up the drama, each look was styled with drawn-on shoes and wide-brim, flat hats, reminiscent of the 19th century styles in France. Body-con and wrap dresses received an upgrade as well with oversized design motifs like satin bows, exaggerated shoulders, and even an entire bolt of floral fabric made it down the runway as part of the dress. To cap off the whole runway extravaganza, this season, supermodel Gigi Hadid walked solo as the brand’s bride. Complete with what might be the longest train in the history of bridal wear along with fake butterflies fluttering behind on wires, wedding chimes rang out as the “Wedding March” played.

Moschino does as Moschino will—and whether or not you’re a fan of the fashion forward label or spunky creative director Jeremy Scott, it’s hard not to appreciate a moment of levity found in Moschino through the midst of the frenetic furor that is fashion month.
