MTV, Welcome Back To My Crib
MTV Cribs is back with a star-studded lineup.
Celebs: they’re just like us. We’re all stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, to be fair, the houses they’re stuck in are probably a bit more elaborate than ours. With this one disparity in mind, MTV International has decided to reboot the iconic “MTV Cribs” series. Stars like Jojo Siwa and Caitlyn Jenner will be showing us around their quarantine digs, an intimate look at the stars during our most isolated times.
“MTV Cribs” first debuted in 2000 and quickly became a staple of early ’00s culture. To this day, it’s difficult to open a front door without quickly adding, “Welcome to my crib.” The show ran for 13 seasons and visited the home of at least 185 celebrities, not to mention the countless spoofs and knock-offs.
In September of last year, “MTV Cribs” got a U.K. revival, followed up this summer by “MTV Cribs: Footballers Stay Home,” (by “footballers” they mean soccer players, no Packers involved). Snapchat also created a short-length version of the series back in 2017.
The new, international “MTV Cribs” is set to launch Oct. 26, with a U.S. version of the show following early next year. In anticipation of the reboot, here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments from the O.G. run.
Missy Elliot
Missy took MTV to her crib and showed off her indoor pool, complete with Greek-style classical sculptures. In other rooms, she housed her many accolades, a white piano, and indoor movie theater. Missy’s mixture of cool R&B style and nouveau riche sensibilities is classic early 2000s.
Destiny’s Child
The girls took “MTV Cribs” on a tour of their Houston, Texas mansion, complete with a cameo from Solange, who lived in the garage apartment. BeyoncĂ© excitedly shows off the intercom in her room, and Kelly takes them on a tour of her bedroom, what she calls “the Queen’s room.”
50 Cent
In classic 2000s rapper style, 50 Cent rolls up with a sideways cap and diamond-encrusted jewelry. He shows off his 51,000 square foot mansion, which includes a “strip club area,” and the Ferraris he uses “for conversation.” What’s he listening to in the car? A Kanye West CD.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian claims to be a “baker” in this episode, and shows off her favorite sprinkled cookies. She also introduces her sisters and her father, Bruce Jenner (now Caitlyn Jenner), to the world. In her bedroom is a stripper pole, which she claims is used only for working out.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop D-O-double G invites MTV to “slide in.” Snoop’s home studio has a sign on the door that warns “This is not a kick-it spot!” The rest of “The Dogg House” seems to be free terrain however as Snoop says, “I was born to party, ya dig?”
