Nasty Cherry’s Debut EP is Here and We’re in Fucking Love
The “best band of 2019” prove that they are alt-pop icons.
The art of the girl band knows no limits and often times manifests itself during the pinnacle of every generation. Closing the decade out with a bang, Nasty Cherry introduced themselves to the world on January 1 of this year on Instagram announcing that they were the “BEST BAND OF 2019.” A product of pop queen Charli XCX’s genius, today the newcomers have gifted us with their debut EP, Season 1, which has us swooning even more deeply for the femme foursome than before.
After releasing a Netflix series documenting the unconventional formation of Nasty Cherry, the band has proven with their inaugural body of work that they are more than the incredible hype they’ve garnered during the past 11 months. They are indeed rock stars.
Kicking off the 6-track effort with a funk-fueled energy, “Brain Soup” is the sexy jam I’ve been craving for to accompany the daily post-grind dance in my underwear and toke sesh (if you know, you know). Followed by the bangers “Music With Your Dad” and “Win”, the first trio of tracks each embodies a different vibe and sound employing this pop group to sit on the throne of alternative music. Closing out the EP, “Fuck Modern Love” is nothing short of a Phil Collins-esque climax anthem and “Live Forever” which, I guarantee, will be next year’s biggest soundtrack sweetheart.
Reshaping the actual formula of how a band is formed, Gabbriette, Chloe, Debbie, and Georgia aren’t asking to be heard. They are demanding to be and nothing could possibly feel more refreshing in the music industry. In short, if you’re not obsessed with Nasty Cherry, you’re absolutely living life completely in the wrong. Slay on queens. V love you.
