Netflix gives audiences a glimpse into Ana de Armas’s transformation into Marylin Monroe for Blonde. Directed by Andrew Dominik, the new film follows the life of the Hollywood icon from her days as Norma Jeane to her rise to fame.

In the opening scene, de Armas, or Monroe, is a ball of nerves as she sits and begs for an ominous “she” to “not abandon her.” As she applies her makeup, the begins to transform into the actress we know and love. It becomes clear at that moment that the “she” Monroe waits for is herself.

The film takes inspiration from Joyce Carol Oates’ novel, Blonde. Dominik takes facts and fiction and merges them for his new take on Monroe’s story. When speaking with Netflix Queue, de Armas said “Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens.” For one of the first times, audiences will see the true version of the actress.

Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Caspar Phillipson, and others star alongside de Armas in the anticipated film. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Tracey Landon, Scott Robertson, with Christina Oh will produce the film.
