Netflix Drops Trailer For “Selena: The Series”

“With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives.”

This holiday season, Netflix is dropping a new series based on the life of late Tejano legend Selena Quintanilla-Perez. “The Queen of Tejano” rose to fame in the 1980s, and went on to become the best-selling Latin artist of the 90s. Her career was tragically cut short when she was killed by the leader of her fan club, days before her 24th birthday.

“Selena: The Series” follows this trajectory, starting when she was just a young girl and formed a family band with her siblings. The two-minute trailer, released yesterday shows a young Selena singing outside her home, overheard by her father, who later put the band together and became their manager. The trailer also features Selena in her iconic bustier tops and her eventual husband and lead guitarist, Chris Pérez.

Selena was most famously portrayed by Jennifer Lopez in the movie “Selena,” released in 1997, only two years after the singer’s death. Christian Serratos, most well known for her work on “The Walking Dead,” will now play her in a show that is sure to introduce the singer to a whole new generation of listeners.

In the trailer, Selena can be heard talking to her sister and saying, “There’s no Beatles without Ringo, and there’s no Selena without Suzette.”

Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla recently said in statement, “With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives.”

“Selena: The Series” will premiere Dec. 4 on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
