New Music: Giveon “Take Time” EP
His name is Giveon. Take the time to get to know him.
Long Beach native, Giveon has released his first EP— this major accomplishment is added to a long list of ‘firsts’. Earlier this month, Drake showcased Giveon’s vocal brilliance on the hook of his very own Chicago Freestyle. He has also been recognized for his talent by NPR, Okay Player, and more. The R&B artists’ voice serenaded the ears of Snoh Allegra, who extended a personal invitation for him to open her tour. Succeeding at all opportunities thrown his way, Take Time is here.
While the sound of his voice has been mistaken for other artists, Giveon crafts his own world on the surface of his baritone voice. Giveon is not confined to the walls of R&B for inspiration, heavily influenced by both ’60s and ’70s Jazz. In an interview with Okayplayer, Giveon “[h]ad and epiphany after initially hearing Sinatra.” He explains, “It was the very first time I heard a baritone singer. I got into Billy Caldwell and Barry White from there. I realized my tone at this point.”
After scrapping a 2013 EP to further explore his voice and delivery, Giveon has been open about his journey with confidence. Therefore, Take Time is the evidence of Giveons built confidence, continuous growth, and hard work over the years. With gracious support from Sevn Thomas, the relationship nurtured “I Like You” into existence. However, Giveon notes that his mom was among the first to point out his flattering voice. With appreciation, he welcomes fans to the EP with audio from none other than, his mother.
Featuring uptempo music, heavy drums, and emotive lyrics, Take Time showcases Giveon’s uniqueness and versatility while staying true to his aesthetic. True star quality, stream Take Time down below.
