New Music Is on the Way from FKA Twigs

The singer has confirmed that her next record, Magdalene, is set to be released in the fall.

FKA twigs fans can rejoice: the singer has announced that a new album is on the way. In an interview with i-D, the singer shared that Magdalene, the successor to 2014’s LP1, will be out in the fall.

The album bears the same name as a series of shows twigs performed earlier in 2019. So far, a few details are known about the record. Rapper Future will appear on a song named “Holy Terrain.” Other tracks include “Daybed,” “Home With You,” “Sad Day” and single “Cellophane.”

Thematically, twigs has divulged that the album will focus on love, specifically “every lover that [she’s] ever had, and every lover that [she’s] going to have.” Twigs’ memorable relationships include Robert Pattinson, whom she dated from 2014 to 2017, and Shia LaBeouf, from whom she recently separated. The singer shared that she found comfort in reading about the story of Mary Magdalene’s.

“No matter what you’re doing or how great your work is, sometimes it’s as though you have to be attached to a man to be validated. I’d felt like that at times. And then I started to read about Mary Magdalene and how amazing she was; how she was likely to have been Jesus’s best friend, his confidante. She was a herbalist and a healer, but, you know, her story is written out of the bible and she was ‘a prostitute’. I found a lot of power in the story of Mary Magdalene; a lot of dignity, a lot of grace, a lot of inspiration.”

The album was co-produced by Nicolas Jaar, and twigs describes it as oscillating between fragility and strength.
