Back in March of 2014, Louis Vuitton embarked on a new expedition with French-Belgian fashion designer Nicolas Ghesquière, who previously was at Balenciaga for 15 years. A successful Fall 2014 collection launched a revitalized adventure at the French fashion house, and now, exactly ten years later at the Cour Carrée du Louvre, the Fall/Winter 2024 collection is just as spectacular.

In an iconic closing to Paris Fashion Week, the collection exudes an amorous hum for the past, while clinging onto what comes next for both Ghesquière and the Maison.

Signature Ghesquière codes such as reimagined curves and lacerations, and unique proportions are displayed in the newest collection. A traveling element is at the forefront, reminiscent of a Flight of the Navigator aesthetic. Pulling from the archives, several pieces from his past collections can be noted, including embroidered jackets with metallic threads and cabochon stones, similar to the Spring 2018 Louis XVI collection.

Classic airplane-approved tracksuits are glammed up and transformed into sci-fi-inspired ensembles, while the iconic LV trunk can be spotted painted across chiseled mini-dresses. Glistening mesh dresses are layered atop long sleeves, bralette tops, and micro shorts, and metallics are sprayed onto staple bomber jackets and matching sets.

Dazzling can-can skirts peek through boxy-basic tops and are layered underneath suede moto-jackets, 18th-century jackets complimented elongated trouser looks, while ginormous oval shoulder-padding accentuates the collection of sweaters, jackets, and dresses, giving off serious Dune cosplay vibes.

Furs are fun and all over the place, whether they are in a cropped vest, chunky mittens throughout, or layered onto an asymmetrical skirt and top combinations. Leather high-waisted trousers, jackets, and polished mini-skirts with feathered dresses containing funky curved hoop hems closed out the show, making for a stellar performance moment.

Accessories are vast in the lineup, with definitive Louis Vuitton handbags including the Trianon trunk completing most of the looks. Gems are plastered along the eyes, fascinatingly replicating sunglasses, while jewelry is kept minimal and headwear is quirky, suggesting a true Ghesquière spirit. Footwear exists in square-toe leather boots and block heels, plunged in shades of blue, green, Fuschia, yellow, and traditional black, white, and grey.

The collection’s palette is packed with excitement, ranging from pastel blues, navy, royal blue, rust, golds and silvers, turquoise, and grandiose greys.

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2024 is merely one illustration of Ghesquière’s artistic savoir-faire and the lasting impact he will continue to make decade after decade.
