Designed by co-founder Bill Bowerman for the 1972 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, Nike’s first-ever sneaker, the Moon Shoe, is getting reinterpreted by Simon Porte Jacquemus with a distinctly modern ballet aesthetic. Originally created as a performance-driven racing shoe, it was the first to incorporate the now-iconic waffle sole, setting a foundation for Nike’s future innovations. More than five decades later, the Moon Shoe returns!
Shot by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, fronting the campaign is actor Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who embodies a ballet-inspired language of motion, where every gesture underscores both strength and delicacy. Through visuals that enhance the flexibility of the body, he reflects the Moon Shoe’s ability to navigate the space between performance and style.

The silhouette is pared down and low to the ground, featuring a sleek torpedo shape. A ruched nylon upper adds texture, complemented by a leather Swoosh and heel counter for added structure. The outsole uses Nike Grind materials, highlighting the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. In Alabaster, Off Noir, and University Red, the shoe is rendered in a palette of pure, essential tones.
The shoe made its debut on the runway during Jacquemus’ Spring 2025 Paris show. The design will officially launch on September 29 at jacquemus.com, followed by a wider release on October 6 via SNKRS and select Nike retailers.
