Nile Rodgers Rocks Bar Chrystie at PUBLIC With Surprise Performance

Marking the first of many musical performances for the hotel, get the lowdown of what went on in one of downtown’s latest hotspots.

This week, a moment in music history was made. Metamorphosing in Bar Chrystie at Ian Schrager’s PUBLIC hotel on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, legendary American guitarist, singer, songwriter, record producer, and arranger Nile Rodgers delivered an endless slew of greatest hits and recounted the many wondrous stories behind each momentous chapter of his famed career.

With around 150 guests packed into the hotel’s hotspot, the unforgettable night marks the beginning of a new music series with Schrager, with Rodgers detailing the source of where it all started for music in New York City, Studio 54. From recounting New Years’ Eve stories with Grace Jones, a night that led to the formation of the hit song “Freak Out” to jamming out guitar rifts and snippets from his hits, the musical powerhouse filled the room for hours.

Guests such as Vashtie Kola, Rex de Tiger, Marja Samson, Afrodet Zuri, Blu de Tiger, Khadijat Oseni, and Karston Tannis were among the first guests to witness the birth of a new series of musical performances at the popular bar, with more names to be announced.
