Notable Jewelry Moments from the 2021 Met Gala

From a spidery facial brooch to a million-dollar necklace, V takes a look at the jewelry that stole the show.

While it might’ve been delayed from May to September, the 2021 Met Gala proved that the biggest night in fashion isn’t bound to a calendar date. Famous artists, actors, and influencers took to the red carpet this week, delivering all the glitz, glam, and major fashion moments the Gala is known for. Themed around “American Independence” in celebration of the upcoming “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibit, the looks at this year’s event offered interpretations and homages to American fashion across the decades. As usual, show-stopping jewelry put already-great ensembles over the top. From facial ornaments to stacked crystals and statement necklaces, here are the most notable jewelry moments from the 2021 Met Gala.

The Euphoria actress and V124 cover star turned heads with spider-like facial jewelry in the same silver as her Prada two-piece. The unique ornament was crafted by jeweler Evangeline AdaLioryn, while Schafer’s matching nails came courtesy of Soji Nails.

Has there ever been a Met Gala where RiRi didn’t serve? This year, the V95 cover star graced the red carpet in custom Maria Tash earrings—the tassels feature over seven carats of diamonds each—as well as a Thelma West ring. Necklaces, bracelets, and an earring from BVLGARI jewelry completed the look.

The jewelry du jour of fashion’s biggest night: layered chokers dripping in diamonds. V alum Precious Lee made a strong case for the necklace to become The Trend, adorning her neck with an elegant piece from Jacob & Co to equal the shine of her dazzling Area blazer dress.

Speaking of chokers, one couldn’t help but stare at the one Kendall Jenner wore on this year’s carpet. The necklace overflowed with enough gems to blind onlookers, while the V130 cover star’s sheer, crystal-studded dress from Givenchy complimented the flashy choice of jewelry.

At an event full of extravagant fashion, rapper Kid Cudi somehow managed to take the cake. The Man on the Moon artist sported a KAWS x Ben Baller necklace rumored to be worth $1 million USD. According to Ben Baller’s Instagram, the team had to shut down their factory for three months to craft the intricate piece.
