Following a year after the release of Louis Vuitton’s show-stopping Nike Air Force 1 Mid collection by the late, Virgil Abloh, Off-White has further prevailed Abloh’s legacy and admiration of the iconic shoe silhouette with their most recent posthumous collaboration with Nike, titled the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid “Graffiti”, alike to the latter collection released in the summer of 2022 which celebrated the shoe’s anniversary.
Shifting focus on the newest product of Off-White and Nike’s longstanding partnership, this release debuts a new colorway and structure that reimagines the previous shoe in a retro-futuristic light. Inciting a sense of 2000s nostalgia with the airbrushed design emulating street graffiti in its vibrant colors and distinct spiked soles, it succeeds in merging the past and the future, continuously reinventing the iconic AF1 which has reigned high in the sneaker world and in streetwear aided by the countless color ways, collaborations, and sporting by virtually everyone.
While paying homage to Abloh’s distinct vision and impact in the world of streetwear, it also pays homage to street culture in all its aspects (music & art) in one of its most defining staples that is embedded in the AF1 shoe, with this release ringing in a celebration for the 4 decades that the shoe has prospered. The striking physical attributes of the “Gobstopper” shoe include its notable graffiti faced on the lateral sides with an embellished (or under embellished) Nike swoosh with exposed threading, the spiked rubber soles, vibrant purple embroidery on the tongue, and of course, Off-White’s signature zip ties (white) and its recognizable stamping on the laces.
