Omega has been chosen as the official timekeeper to count down to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. On July 26th, the watch brand unveiled its countdown clock at the Port de la Bourdonnais below the Eiffel Tower.
The special event has left the city of Paris thrumming with excitement for the big reveal. In attendance was Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee alongside the President and CEO of Omega Raynald Aeschlimann, and President of Paris, Tony Estanguet. The three together will display the timepiece and begin the countdown to this year’s Olympic games.
Aescilmann discusses the sentiment behind this partnership, saying “Accurate and reliable timekeeping is vital for The Olympic Games. For over 90 years, OMEGA has ensured the accurate recording of the athletes’ results so they can be written into Olympic History.”
The iconic Swiss watch brand has constructed a tribute to the time-honored games, with a clock that sports a central flame circumvented by a golden ring, reminiscent of the Olympic Flame lit to signal the commencement of the games. The piece commemorates the legacy of the games and the long history between Omega and the Olympics, a relationship that spans generations. Beginning in 1932, Omega has had the privilege to take part in this time-keeping tradition, the 2024 Paris Olympics will be the 31st time Omega takes part as the Official Timekeeper.
The special occasion is an exciting celebration, one that venerates the long-standing traditions of the Olympics. Omega has taken this distinction with stride, creating a clock worthy of such a monumental countdown.
