Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, According to Ferragamo

Ferragamo’s pre-fall collection offers a new interpretation of Hollywood – and the modern wardrobe

When Salvatore Ferragamo opened his store on Hollywood Boulevard in the spring of 1923, it was symbolic of expansion, improvement and an unlimited scope of creation. Today, nearly 100 years later, the Hollywood history so integral to Ferragamo’s foundations anchored creative director Maximilliam Davis’s sophomore collection, paying homage to the roots of the brand and era of showbiz and starlets while crafting a collection that was equal parts nostalgic and fresh.

Focused on the reimagination of classic Hollywood through juxtaposing glamorous and minimalist elements, Davis further develops the narrative of his debut collection into an all-encompassing world – one that transports you to a time halfway between a star-studded movie premiere and a casually perfect night out. Streamlined bootleg pants, nearly reflectively glossy leathers, deep V’s and dark denim pants, tops and jackets serve to illustrate that modernization of classic silhouettes, while perfectly tailored jackets, tiny mini skirts and splashes of reds, browns and oranges evoke a more retro aura.  “I want to create a new Hollywood for Ferragamo – and it’s about introducing new ways of dressing both for the red carpet and the everyday,” says Davis.

In his new Hollywood, the collection even reflects the physical contrast within Hollywood’s landscape. From snow-tipped peaks to sun-kissed hills, the desert just beyond the bustling city was another point of inspiration, manifesting itself in the contrast between the collection’s pristine fabrications and more raw edges. A show-stopping floor-length red fishnet inspired dress – nearly totally transparent – is a stark interpretation of this harmonious contrast. And yet, the high-octane glamor Hollywood is known for is present through a number of dresses in remarkable fabrics: one of metallic copper, one of flowing white silk and a cascading black number, all of which marry traditional elegance to elevated edge – Davis’s speciality. Tribute is even paid to the innovation at the center of the brand’s legacy in an array of footwear  – from angular heels to new colored interpretations of the Gancino to the perverse point’s at the toes of pumps, every element of the collection breathes new life into known and loved Ferragamo staples.

The brand’s quality and craftsmanship appear center stage, as staple silhouettes and elevated essentials are executed with such stringent finesse as to create a new definition of such words. These are looks which can be broken down into precise pieces, elevated by the techniques and materials used to create them. The result is a new kind of modern wardrobe marked by an effortless coolness and complete with accents and accessories designed to stand out.
