Oscars Nominations 2022: This Year’s List of Nominees

Andrew Garfield, Will Smith, Kristen Stewart and Benedict Cumberbatch make this year’s nominations list.

The nominees for the 94th Academy Awards were announced this morning by actors Leslie Jordan and Tracee Ellis Ross. This year’s highly rated features, including The Power of the Dog, Dune, West Side Story and Belfast, led the nominations list, with The Power of the Dog receiving 12 nominations for its production and performance–the most out of every film. Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most nominated pictures were produced by and released on popular streaming services: Netflix, HBOMax and AppleTV+, to name a few.

Although some names were left out of the nominations–Lady Gaga for House of Gucci, Rachel Zegler for West Side Story and Denis Villeneuve for directing Dunethe best actor/actress lists weren’t filled with disappointments. Previous Oscar nominees, such as Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick…Boom!) and Will Smith (King Richard), were featured in the category, plus some new names to the nominations list. Kristen Stewart, who received her first Oscar nomination for her role in Spencer, is now one of three openly gay performers to receive the “Best Actress in Leading Role” nominee.

The 2022 Oscars will be televised, and hosted in-person on March 27th at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. View the full list of nominees below.
