OutKast’s “Stankonia” Gets a 20th Anniversary Reissue
The groundbreaking hip-hop album’s re-release will feature unreleased remixes and special versions of their songs.
Hip-hop duo OutKast’s masterpiece, Stankonia, is the latest in the line of albums getting the reissue treatment. Originally released on Halloween 2000, the album will be re-released on October 30, 2020, to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The reissue will feature previously unreleased remixes for some of the album’s most popular songs, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad), So Fresh, So Clean, and Ms, Jackson, the group’s first number one single in the United States. These will be featured on the album’s expanded digital version, along with acapella versions of all three songs. Each of the three songs also comes with a streaming bundle, which will include additional remixes as well as instrumental and acapella versions.
The album will also be released on vinyl, but exclusively for Vinyl Me, Please members. The two LP-set will be pressed on “Black and White Galaxy” vinyl. The album will be marketed as the vinyl club’s October record of the month.
Stankonia is considered one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made, and was the album that propelled OutKast to mainstream success. The album was hailed for its melding of hip-hop with new wave, funk, gospel, psychedelic, and a variety of other sounds, along with André 3000’s more melodic and rhythmic rapping style and Big Boi’s diverse production. The album was a commercial and critical success, having sold over four million copies in the United States alone, and frequently ranking on “greatest album of all time” lists.
