As consumers, we are constantly grappling with how to be ethical consumers while also wearing things that we love. Not only is fast-fashion polluting Earth, but it’s a colossal industry that often abuses garment workers in poor countries and puts them in harmful working conditions. PANGAIA is a brand that’s trying to move the in the right direction. They’re working tooth and nail to create clothing constructed from renewable, sustainable, post-consumer recycled materials. They are connecting scientists with designers of all walks of life, enabling responsible and thoughtful garments that are both beautiful and functional.

Today, PANGAIA launched their first collection of essentials; T-shirts, hoodies, track pants, and puffer jackets. The simple, monochromatic pieces boast high-tech features such as a T-shirt treated with peppermint oil that will stay fresh for 10 wears without washing and the hoodie and track pants were created with plastic bottles. Their limited release flower down puffer jacket is comparable to goose down and is 100% vegan and made from dried wildflowers.

Perhaps one of coolest building blocks of the brand is their philanthropic platform, Missions. After purchasing a PANGAIA piece, they will “donate 1% [of proceeds] to 5 Gyres on your behalf. 5 Gyres is a non-profit organization that empowers action against the global health crisis of plastic pollution through science, art, education, and adventure.” Additionally, they’ve teamed up with The Renewal Workshop, a company that repairs and resells brand-name clothing in order to maintain your PANGAIA pieces through either being repaired or recycled. This will be a complimentary service that will begin in 2019.

You can shop the collection now on the PANGAIA website and check out some images of the clothing below.
