Paris Fashion Week Will Be IRL This September

Paris Fashion Week just announced that they will remain in-person despite COVID-19 concerns.

Paris Fashion Week just announced that there will be in-person fashion shows this September despite health and travel concerns due to COVID-19.

Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), which operates Paris Fashion Week, announced today that PFW Spring/Summer ’21 collections will be shown both in person and virtually this fall. FHCM said the event will take place from September 28 to October 6 in both physical and virtual format with live events and digital versions via the Paris Fashion Week Online platform. In a brief statement, FHCM also said that the activities “will comply with the recommendations of public authorities.”

This is quite surprising considering fashion’s uncertain future, with fashion shows deciding to skip the season overall or host virtual shows instead for the rest of the year. Brands like Hermès will be live-streaming its Spring 2021 collection, and London Fashion Week switching to digital this year.

During this time, brands and fashion lovers all over are rethinking how they work and consume in fashion, especially with the fashion industry being one of the most wasteful industries in the world. The past few months have allowed conversations surrounding sustainability and consumer patterns to drive and inspire change and new ideas.

While PFW is continuing its physical platform, we’ll have to see how other brands navigate this new normal as they monitor the pandemic and any updated restrictions.
