As coronavirus threats impede the lives worldwide and single Americans struggle in solitude under mandated social distancing orders, research is surfacing surrounding the impact the pandemic will have on dating in America, particularly online dating. According to Pew Research published earlier this year, 48% of Americans 18-29 and 38% of Americans 30-49 have participated in online dating, putting apps like Tinder and Bumble at the forefront of the romantic world and opening up an even wider market for apps that pertain to more specific audiences.

Most dating apps connect people based on superficial criteria for immediate satisfaction, which works in the short-run, but how successful is that strategy in terms of long-term relationships. Of course, a large pool of people are only looking for short-term flings on dating apps, so in that case, swiping culture is ideal. However, for those who want to dive deeper, anti-superficial dating app S’More connects their matches on the basis of similar passions, traits, and values with the goal of fostering authentic relationships.

S’More conducted a study regarding the changing landscape of online dating in the face of COVID-19, and the results certainly point to applications with deeper meaning. According to their findings, 58% of online daters surveyed reported that they plan to be more cautious when dating and screen their dates to a greater degree than before the pandemic, a statistic that jumps to over 65% when looking only at female respondents. Furthermore, 49% say they will go on fewer dates and meet fewer people, 58% for women only. 42% are looking for something more serious than they were before, increasing to 48% when looking at millennials.

In the aftermath of COVID-19, serious dating apps are predicted to take a giant leap in popularity, and at the forefront, you’ll find S’More. Go ahead, give it go! Get a head start and download the app, here.
