First introduced last year by Polo Ralph Lauren, their new line Polo Originals pays tribute to all things motorsport and prep style in this latest campaign. With an homage to the prestigious Tourist Trophy motorcycle race, the collection features vintage racing jackets, wool sweaters, and looks that honor speed and style.
Taking cues from the rich heritage of English motorsport and academic traditions, the collection showcases a range of timeless designs that are deeply rooted in meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtfully chosen fabrics.
Highlighted styles in the collection encompass the Camo Oilcloth Jacket, a modern reinterpretation of a classic Ralph Lauren motorcycle jacket sourced from the archive. This piece is meticulously crafted using British Millerain® oilcloth fabric. The Asymmetrical Oilcloth Jacket, on the other hand, takes its inspiration from a vintage Ralph Lauren design, with genuine racing accents like quilted panels for added durability and vintage-style racing pins for a touch of nostalgia.
The Hand-Painted Leather Cafe Racing Jacket was inspired by a jacket from Mr. Ralph Lauren’s personal wardrobe. This exceptional piece undergoes meticulous hand-distressing and is treated to achieve an authentic crackle effect, mirroring the well-worn look of a seasoned cyclist’s attire.
Renowned photographer Richard Phibbs captured the campaign in diverse settings, from the bustling Goodwood Motor Circuit pit lane to the tranquil English countryside. These images draw inspiration from the pioneering era of Grand Prix racing, harking back to a time when racers sported classic workwear and racing gear to lay the foundations of motorsport history. The campaign will come to life during the three-day Goodwood Revival festival through a blend of physical and digital presentations.
