Known for her tag line “I am Poppy”, the world largely still begs the question, “Who is Poppy?” Singer? Performance artist? AI? A figment of our imaginations? The artist herself seems to share in our confusion, as the title of her sophomore album even queries Am I A Girl? Whoever Poppy may be, she now adds author to the roster of titles, announcing her first ever graphic novel, “Genesis 1”.

Wired Magazine quotes, “The magic of Poppy is that, to understand Poppy, you have to keep watching Poppy.” That said, as if her viral YouTube videos do not provide the clarity solicited, the artist has employed a new medium by writing a book to pair with an exclusive new album.

By the title, “Genesis 1”, it seems the public may finally find the answers it seeks from the novel. “Genesis,” by definition of the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “the origin or mode of formation of something” and so what more to expect of it than a comprehensive tale of the persona’s inception?
