Prabal Gurung Delivers Elegance and Hope for SS26

The colorful collection was shown at St. Bartholomew’s Church
Prabal Gurung’s angelic show, “Angels in America” was shown at St. Bartholomew’s Church on Park Avenue. The Manhattan School of Music Chamber Choir provided the musical accompaniment for the presentation and a moment of reprieve amidst a bustling season.
Whether through color or form, a sense of blossoming is conveyed in the collection, and a botanical theme emerges. Prabal Gurung notes that he was partly inspired by a particular flower for this one—the angel’s trumpet. He shares that they “are a reminder that beauty and danger, fragility and resilience, often coexist.”

This tension appears throughout the collection, where chic silhouettes play with the coexistence of restriction and volume. Silk trenches are sinched above the knee echoing the form of the collection’s trumpet skirts and dresses—and are also reminiscent of the angel’s trumpet. A sense of airiness comes through loose-fitting dresses and sleeveless looks, as well as the collection’s embrace of silk and chiffon. The color palette is vast and includes moody blues, playful pinks and vibrant marigold. Overall, looks provided elegance but managed to convey movability.

The “Angels in America” theme—appearing through form and movement—offers a hopeful message in constricted times. “This collection is my meditation on [a] vision: of summoning angels from the margins, of finding transcendence amid confinement, of honoring those who embody hope when the world feels bound and broken.”
