Ahead of International Women’s Day, Prada Group and UNFPA continue their commitment to fostering empowerment through fashion with the third edition of Fashion Expressions: The Stories She Wears. This initiative, which launched in Mexico in 2023 following its success in Ghana and Kenya, is entering a new phase that deepens community engagement and amplifies its impact on the artisans of Querétaro.

This year’s program courageously leaps forward by introducing a mentorship model. 26 returning artisans will refine their skills and guide a new cohort of 20 young women. These newcomers, aged 25 to 28, bring their experience in embroidery, having been nominated by last year’s participants. This creates a self-sustaining cycle of knowledge and support within this outstanding and impressive community.

“Women are the backbone of the fashion and garment industry,” said Mariarosa Cutillo, UNFPA Private Sector and Civil Society Brand Chief. Fashion Expression recognized this imperative role by interlacing artistic skill development with education on sexual and reproductive health.

Prada Group employees in Mexico will work directly with the program participants, cherishing a deep-rooted connection between global fashion expertise and local artisanal traditions. Lorenzo Bertelli, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Prada Group, highlighted the program’s impact: “Fashion serves as a vehicle for hope, independence, and empowerment—both for individuals and their communities.” This year’s program again emphasizes empowerment and advocates for preventing gender-based violence.

As Fashion Expression grows, it proves that fashion is more than what you wear on your back. Instead, it’s a catalyst for social change, equipping women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to shape their futures.
