Prada Launches SS22 Collection in a Dual Runway Show
Broadcast from Milan and Shanghai, the spring/summer 2022 collection explored the beautiful simplicity of Prada.
Fashion returns to the runway, and Prada’s runway turns to a celebration of fashion.
For the spring 2022 ready-to-wear collection, the iconic label live-streamed runway shows simultaneously from two continents, uniquely launching the first SS22 collection designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons live from Milan and Shanghai. Each runway was everything Prada stands for—polish, modernity and a lot of black.
“The Prada Spring/Summer 2022 womenswear show is a celebration of the unique experience of the runway, and the power of technology to transcend borders, to unite,” said Prada in a statement. “A celebration of fashion and of community.”
Elegance embodied, Prada’s collection for the season is nothing short of the sophistication the house is known for, made anew in relaxed, if not casual designs. A color palette embedded in black leather and knitwear is highlighted by pale pastels, baby pink and canary silks adding doses of lightness to the otherwise darkly hued collection.
Leather and nylon—Prada’s specialties—get their spotlight moments in unbuttoned blazers and leather jackets with bare chests underneath, A-line dresses cinched at the waist with open backs, micro mini-skirts with trailing trains and wide-shouldered tank tops with elasticized hems.
The spring/summer 2022 collection is one of Prada’s classic luxury, of course, but also one of extremely wearable basics. Every mini-skirt and simple (yet beautiful) dress has day-to-night freshness, styled simply with few adornments besides a Prada bag. Tank tops tucked into shorts and skirts are elevated daywear, while oversized leather jackets, button-up knits and shirts with lace-up fronts easily transcend the runway to contemporary life, doing just what fashion should do—be a part of the every day, a seamless part of life.
