On August 24, the San Francisco Bay Bridge became the site of a world first. In collaboration with Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull, skysurfing pioneer and two-time X Games medalist Sean MacCormac completed a 1,676-meter freefall that ended with him gliding along the bridge’s steel cables.

The descent demanded months of preparation and the development of equipment capable of withstanding the challenge. Prada Linea Rossa, working with the Luna Rossa America’s Cup team, designed a custom skysurf board tailored for the feat. Built with a honeycomb core and carbon-fiber layers for reactivity, a lightweight polyethylene base to handle abrasion, and a painted surface for durability, the board combined aerodynamic precision with resilient construction.

Wearing Prada Linea Rossa performance gear, MacCormac leapt from a helicopter above the Bay, carving a controlled path through the air before reaching the bridge. His board held steady as he slid the cables, then broke away in a spiral turn to land on a floating platform positioned below.

“This project brings a vision into reality,” MacCormac said. “Sliding along the cables of the Bay Bridge is something I’ve imagined for years. To see it realized, with the support of Prada Linea Rossa, Luna Rossa, and the training behind it, is remarkable.”

Bridge Rider extends the collaboration between Prada Linea Rossa and Red Bull, proving how technical design and athletic experimentation can intersect to push the boundaries of possibility.
