Miuccia Prada’s FW18 presentation in Milan yesterday shook the tail feathers of fashion, very forwardly, by transporting the world of Prada into a sci-fi headspace. In a dark mirrored room with a drone running amok and recording the show, the runway this time around isn’t a future take on fashion, it’s the reality of the current advancements already within the world.

In a continued leap for Prada, this collection has varied amounts of nostalgic touchback to its roots, but still indeed pushes the brand to a new level of design. Using a unpredictable color palette, mixed textures, and onward construction techniques, these garments transcend the norm of ready-to-wear style. Dark hues are the base of most garments, like puffer coats and dresses with small touches of neon.

In an exciting appearance, Amber Valletta dons a show-stopping coat imprinted with vibrantly brushed blurry neon reflections, bringing this nighttime-centric collection into a tangible product. Miuccia creates mismatch glory, pairing and layering familiar knits to create a nostalgic high-fashion moment. Other moments include florally cosmic embossed dresses, as well as a plastic fringed closing.

If one thing is clear surrounding Miuccia Prada’s inherited reign, she is formulating her own rules and potent voice for the brand rooted in her blood. In both presentation and execution, this Prada collection is creating a buzz that’s more than just a simple conversation. It’s a testament to the current state of fashion and the learned nature we’ve fed it.
