Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons may have taken a trip via time machine when designing their Fall/Winter 2024 collection.
The dynamic fashion duo provides a fresh view of the contemporary. Trends of today are twisted in time, bringing us back while simultaneously looking ahead. At the Deposito Hall at Foundation Prada in Milano, the collection was sheathed in glass flooring underneath a spectacular view of whimsy natural elements. Drawing from the echoes of history, pieces refer to pinnacles of beauty that are still vibrant in relevance.

The collection’s outerwear including biker jackets, bomber jackets, and staple knitwear is transformed by past line and detail characteristics, giving pieces a new, but nostalgic energy. Experimentation can be found on pieces entrenched within other clothing items, and exposed garments are carved around the form to reveal internal layers. Contrasting fabrications are developed on skirts coated in tender silk, weaved together with structured wool.
Silhouettes are classic, with some garments referring to the wartime tones of the late ‘40s. Elsewhere, 1920s “officecore” influences can be spotted in chic dresses and proportional outerwear silhouettes. A glimpse of the ‘50s can be seen in letterman jackets adorned with a patchwork “P”, as well as dreamy cocktail dresses. Airy slips introduce a romantic element – while femininity is pushed through subtly bold ruffles, bows, and frills.

Accessories highlight the collection, with playfully powerful furry conductor hats dipped in a medley of colors. Pastel kitten heels tone down autumnal hues of plums and blacks and kaleidoscopic shades. Nuanced handbags are suspended with poise, and sunglasses are in micro and slanted shapes.

Several friends and guests of the Prada family were in stylish attendance including Hunter Schafer, Emma Watson, and Letitia Wright. An emotive voyage down memory lane, the autumnal lineup allows us to fall in love with the history of fashion and the Prada label all in one show.
