Premiere: Betsy Tells a Tale of Romantic Escapism in “True Romance”

“This could be a true romance / Cos I’m your blonde and you’re so cool / This could be a true romance / Go where we want cos you’re so cool.”

Betsy, a young singer-songwriter from Wales, is back today with a new single titled “True Romance.” Combining elements of gospel, soul and cinematic storytelling, the new song tells a timeless tale of romantic escapism where Betsy herself opens up and appears more vulnerable and fundamentally human than ever.

The single comes with a music video that feels like a string of flashbacks of all things past. Directed by Julian Kapadia (who has worked with the likes of Harley Weir, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton), it’s a purposefully-underdone and affectingly intimate portrait of ill-fated love on the run.

While Betsy was shown as a bodybuilder-like woman that is an embodiment of physical power, “True Romance” is a testament to a different type of strength — showing the singer’s ability to embrace both.
