Premiere: Electronic Artist Alexander Lewis Shares Genre-Defying Track "Off Guard"

The ultimate love story song.

The ultimate love story song.

Text: Sadie Bell

Love can come to us unexpected and quickly, inducing a case of love-at-first-site-stricken whiplash or entirely knocking us off our feet as we fall head first into a romantic whirlwind of unprepared emotions.

This is the story carried by the new single from multi-instrumentalist, electronic artist Alexander Lewis, “Off Guard,” the latest release from his forthcoming EP. Through a brass section reverberating like a fast-paced heart beat and overwhelmed lyrics caught up in a chance counter that proved to be much more, the new track, premiering below, is a sonic representation of this transformative experience.

Lewis, known for his jazz training and the name he’s built in the nightlife scene, fuses the two worlds in the track through thrilling, pop magic production and the use of varied instrumentation as it hails in and out of the upbeat dance chorus and the vocalist proclaims, “My heart was unguarded, you caught me off guard.”

Of the song, Lewis said, “This song was a breath of fresh air for me. Trying to avoid being dubbed as a singular genre artist and getting caught up in the monotony of making the same style of song over and over again, I wanted to show my versatility and my passion for creating varying styles of music. 'Off Guard' is just that. A love that catches you off guard, falling for someone unexpectedly, and not necessarily being ready to receive it.”
