“California” features breathtaking shots of the songstress in a remote desert as a warm sunset glows, as well as scenes by the sea where iyla gives us serious Ariel vibes with hair long red hair. On the song, iyla shares that “California” is the second song she ever wrote with her producer Kadis, and that “[i]t is deeply personal, and its theme revolves around the heartache and heartbreak of knowing the love that you’re experiencing is only temporary.” She goes on to say that “[i]t was important for [her] and [her] creative director Embryo to capture a more stripped-down version of [herself], as well as the natural beauty of the state [she] grew up in.” As a native Californian, the visual represents her home and her heart.

October is set to be an eventful month of iyla. On top of today’s music video release, the artist has revealed that she is preparing to embark on her first headlining tour, announcing North American dates from February through March in 2020.
