V Premiere: Lila Drew Releases “Take It Back”

Following the release of her debut album, Lila Drew exclusively premieres her new music video for “take it back” on V Magazine.

Lila Drew may be a newly minted adult, but she has a matured knack for making music. Today, V get to see her flex more creative muscles with her new music video for “take it back”. The song is the first track off her first ever EP, locket (side one). Speaking about her debut EP, Drew explains, “locket (side one) is an introspective look at snapshots in my life, collaged together into a kind of musical scrapbook. Through this project, I wanted to explore nostalgia and the importance of childhood memories and experiment with vocal layering and live instrumentation.”

We see elements of that vision in the video: the aesthetic and set design take it back to earlier times. We follow a girl journeying through a 70s-inspired town, deserted of all people. Except for Lila Drew, of course, who appears on TV screens throughout. Drew says, “We were all interested about the idea of finding peace and happiness in solitude and that being alone isn’t always lonely. ‘take it back’ (the song) touches on those themes as well… Everyone involved in this video really cared so much about making something unique, which made the process even better.”

Like any new artist, she has refined her craft and is ready to impact the soundscape with her own unique mark. The video for “take it back” is just another instance of her doing so. Her career might be in genesis, but this video is a call to stay tuned for the exciting things to come from Lila Drew.
