A diary is a method of recording, documenting, and remembering. It knows no particular medium, as it can exist in words and images, as even clothing. A diary situates in time, a particular feeling or sentiment, as young designer Maya Reik has done for MAREI 1998’s Spring/Summer ‘19 collection as Creative Director.

Today, V debuts one of MAREI 1998’s "Diary Series” films by Daniel Jackont. You can watch as Reik, a 20-year-old high school dropout, explains her approach in conceptualizing and creating the new collection. She references her diaries as a young girl while whimsically lounging in the radiant sun of Tuscany. The film hints of youthful wonder mixed with intense emotion and luxe glamour as an accompaniment to the clothing.

The collection used Charles Mackintosh paintings as reference, an artist who worked during the Art Nouveau period and painted with the vibrant, precious, and delicate nature of flowers and nature in mind. In Reik’s creations, the references to Mackintosh can be seen through delicate silks, floral hand beading and embroidery and dramatically glamorous faux furs and feathers as an ode to 1920’s icons Tallulah Bankhead and Louise Brooks.

You can shop the exclusive trunk show on Moda Operandi now, which will be available through November 23rd.
