Premiere: Winona Oak Debuts With “He Don’t Love Me”

Oak’s anticipated debut track is paired with pulsating visuals.

Swedish born, LA-based artist Winona Oak has released her long awaited debut single and music video for “He Don’t Love Me” under Neon Gold/Atlantic Records, home to fellow singer-songwriters Marina, Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens, Haim, and Tove Lo.

Swedish director Andreas Öhman’s focus on conceptual storytelling introduces narrative elements and subtle details that unfold with each viewing of the music video for “He Don’t Love Me”.

Oak’s sentimental vocals reverberate alongside black and white visuals that collectively show the sorrow of someone who isn’t loved. While the melancholic singer muses about a detached lover in her lyrics, Oak recognizes, “We’re all capable of falling for people who don’t value us, grasping for a leaving hand. But we must understand that we’re just as capable of realizing that our worth does not lay in those heavy hands.”

Along with being a singer and performer, Oak has a background in songwriting for herself as well as others. Oak signed to Neon Gold Records last year after taking a leap of faith in attending Neon Gold Records’ writing retreat a year before when she moved to Stockholm to pursue her music career. There, she met Australian electronic producer Emoh Instead, known as What So Not. From then, Oak’s courage was rewarded as she went on to co-write his singles “Better” and “Stuck In Orbit”. Later on, Oak was acknowledged as both the writer and featured artist on What So Not’s single “Beautiful”.

Oak was born and raised in the Nordic forests of Sweden on a small crop of land called Sollerön, the Island of the Sun. She grew up as a trained horse acrobat during her childhood which was spent more with animals than people. At a young age, she sought to express herself creatively in various forms, including writing poetry and songs. Oak was born into a musical family that encouraged her talent to flourish, as she sang throughout her youth and played the violin and piano before reaching her teenage years.

Without further ado, V present the premiere of Oak’s music video for “He Don’t Love Me”.
