Priscilla Presley: Queen of Rock and Fashion Icon

With the news of the upcoming Elvis biopic we take a closer look at Priscilla Presley, style icon, muse and a fashion favorite.

If Elvis Presleyis King, then that makes Priscilla Presley Queen. Known for her vintage style, Presley is one of midcentury fashion’s greatest examples. Born in 1945, Priscilla first met Elvis in her teens. The relationship was under strict supervision and the pair were chaperoned all times, but in 1967, the 31 year-old heartthrob married 21 year-old Priscilla and she quickly became one of the most famous women in the world.

With her black beehive, thick lashes and winged eyeliner, Priscilla was an instant style icon. For her wedding to Elvis, she wore a timely silk chiffon gown with a beaded neckline and sleeves. Her hair was worn high and her eyeliner on-point. Presley’s dress is one of the most famous wedding dresses in history.

Elvis and Priscilla divorced in 1973 after six years of marriage, but Priscilla went on to define a new look for the decade. Gone was the trademark beehive as she experimented with new looks, first dying her hair red, then eventually blonde.

In the mid-seventies, Presley opened a clothing boutique, and starred in several high-profile movies throughout the eighties.

In the mid-2000’s, Presley starred in a Jeremy Scott ad campaign with Tori Spelling. The campaign was an ode to Scott’s love of campy melodramas. Presley’s early looks have been imitated by Lana Del Rey and, more recently, Lily Collins. Collins showed up to this year’s Met Gala serving 1960’s Priscilla realness.

We take a retrospective look at Priscilla’s top style moments.
