The rumors are true: A Star Is Born is a bona fide hitNow, before you slate this positive observation as a given because of V's commitment and love for it's shining star Lady Gaga, think again. As the fourth iteration of the iconic love story, the 2018 Cooper-directed revival is a standout tour de force of film-making, storytelling, and succeeds in every category imaginable making it a piece of cinematic gold.

Framed with a killer soundtrack penned by both Cooper and Gaga, the voice of this piece lives in every breath and detail from start to finish. The film introduces the world to Ally and Jack, two very different characters whose cravings and realities in life align by chance and ultimately spiral into a connection that feels vibrant, risky, and endlessly human. What ensues is a modern tale of the universal fears, fuck ups, and enchantments that love conjures and perpetuates.

To avoid any spoilers I will keep this brief. Cooper has directed this film with enough space and silence in each scene for these actors, especially Lady Gaga, to be unapologetically vulnerable and fully fleshed, complex beings. Tackling themes like self-love and addiction, Cooper cautiously immerses an audience and himself onto a horizon that experiences both light and darkness by colorfully saturating pleasure and grounding black and white actuality. Elevating all of the above, the music that lives throughout the entire film, provides a wide spectrum of genre crafting waves of escapism and plunging starkness on a concurrent scale.

In finale, a star is indeed born as Lady Gaga pours her everything into "I'll Never Love Again" which inspires and secures a captive audience unlike any other that Gaga has ever achieved; a soulful testament to the power in Gaga's defenselessly unmatched loving and open nature. That being said, the question on every critic and fan's mind is: will she win the Oscar? Folks, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper have already won in every sense and meaning of the term, and anything else that follows in the next four months will only be icing on the cake. Run don't walk to this film and revel in the brilliance, chemistry, and artistry of Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
