Revving up Its Engine, Ferrari Zooms Into Milan Fashion Week

Always looking forward, never back, the Italian magnum releases its fourth collection as it races into the lavish and dizzying rabbit hole that is the fashion world. Will it keep up?

Fe-rra-ri: three syllables. The second rolls of the tongue like a kitten’s purr—or an engine’s rev. Just in saying its name lies an exhilarating experience. Add zooming past lanes, luxury apparel, and sensuous Italian leather to the equation, and you’ve got the Ferrari experience.

Always looking forward, never back, the Italian magnum releases its fourth collection as it races into the lavish and dizzying rabbit hole that is the fashion world. Will it keep up?

As Ferrari presented its Spring/Summer 2023 collection, a melody of sensuous Jazz and sweeping strings clashed against supersonic electronic beats. While seemingly disparate, the show’s score hinted at the eclectic references Ferrari’s latest collection would soon reveal.

The usual Hunter Green, incandescent yellow, and Ferrari Red appeared throughout the collection as the house welcomed Terracotta, pastel blues, tan, and indigo. At times, colors took the form of palm prints and tie-dye compositions. Maximalist avenues to adorn garments were also taken in hyper-embellished trousers, tops, and skirts scintillating with massive sequins. Emblematic of the Ferrari lifestyle, the collection was a visual celebration of living life in the fast lane and the aspirational dream associated with its name.

This season, the house accelerates its sartorial engine as we witness Ferrari’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, where we rejoin the Italian icon in an incandescent white box of a runway. Burning bright and stripped down to the most basic sense, the runway becomes a blank canvas as Rocco Iannone launches the season with a look that couldn’t be more characteristically Ferrari.

Voluminous by nature yet urban to the touch, a utilitarian coat asymmetrically joined by a buckle belt emerged on the runway. Though simple, the sum of the coat with black tights, black and red padded gloves, and a sleek leather shoulder bag conveyed a low-key take on Italian craftsmanship. Whereas its emphasis lies within its material, the show’s opener indicated a deviation from the spring’s frenetic prints.

As the presentation progressed, look three set itself apart. Although encased in the same charcoal shade—a signature of the house—its coat, lined in a fiery Ferrari red, imbued its wearer with a mysterious edge. Always on the run yet effortlessly stylish, the Ferrari woman suddenly became embedded with a sleek sophistication tinged with masculinity—all through the brand’s lexicon of its insatiable need for speed.

Color blocking infiltrated the collection with charcoal, hunter green, Bubblegum Pink, and a surfeit of blues. Presented in captivating combinations, the house imprinted an urban flair on its latest collection.

Swaying as models passed by attendees, fringe on knitwear created quite the spectacle. In variations ranging from sweaters to jumpsuits, its distressed tresses distorted the internationally renowned logo. Contrasting Heather Gray with Navy, Steel Blue, and Bubblegum Pink, the house captured the pulsing vibrance its fanbase relentlessly craves. Sweater vests and ankle-length dresses played off the same interpretation of its logo, offering a more toned-down take on the exclamative design.

Padded circular pants also added statement to a collection already teeming with vibrance. Through their parenthetical structures, an air of sci-fi fantasy was instilled in the collection’s sporty DNA. Whether evoking the image of racecar drivers dashing down a circuit or the gravity-defying outfits of outer space, the trousers seemed a magnet for attention. Some attendees smiled, others furrowed, while most stood there trying to track the references that birthed their outlandish figure.
