Who said quarantine was all that bad? Do we really miss making excuses for binging Queer Eye instead of going out? Well, retro musical group REYNA is dropping a new track “Lonely Girl” this Friday and it captures those exact pre-quarantine feels.
Written and performed by REYNA sisters Vic and Gab Banuelo, “Lonely Girl” is a personal but universally felt track that explores the anxieties attached to being social.
“Last year I struggled with the worst social anxiety and panic attacks, I had never experienced anything like it before,” Gab Banuelos said. “I am doing so much better today, even though this year has had it’s challenges, dancing like a Lonely Girl in my room has made me feel like everything is going to be alright even if it’s just for a little bit.”
The song’s release arrives with a self-directed music video by REYNA. Their “Lonely Girl” muted-colored music video features the Banuelo sisters laying solo in the grass juxtaposed with them skating and biking together down an empty suburban street.
“I’m a lonely girl (lonely girl) / in my lonely world (lonely world),” REYNA sings.
Since 2015, REYNA has picked up steam opening for artists such as Kesha, X Ambassadors, The Naked & Famous and CHVRCHES. Last year, REYNA was awarded “Project: Aloft Star” while competing against 2,000 bands nationwide. More recently, the musical ground received membership to the Grammy’s Recording Academy.
