Rhude x McLaren Is Finally Here

A partnership that is all about motor race nostalgia.

After months of teasing, the first drop of R H U D E’ s capsule collection in collaboration with the iconic racing brand McLaren is finally available. The lineup is part of R H U D E’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection and celebrates McLaren’s heritage, with references to the 1980s and ‘90s combined with some of the fashion label’s signature themes.

The collection features shirts, jackets, sweats, sweaters, hats, and other accessories inspired by racing uniforms, logos, and even Formula 1 sponsors – some pieces feature R H U D E’s logo in a typeface inspired by Marlboro’s, for example. Checkered knits resemble racing flags, while oversized high-collared jackets with patches and elastic cuffs nod to the suits worn by racers.

The palette also pays homage to McLaren’s signature orange and blue cars, a color scheme that debuted with Bruce McLaren in 1968. Jackets, shorts, and hats come in royal blue and papaya, with boxy embroidered caps inspired by models from the ‘80s and ‘90s.

The collab also includes retro-inspired denim, bucket hats, gloves, and striped socks. McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo has been seen in some of the collection’s designs, including a mechanic-inspired button-down featuring a “Rhude” name patch, striped details, and pockets with flaps shaped like Marlboro’s red motif – which might be coming in the next drop.

“My team and I at R H U D E couldn’t be more excited about this collaboration with McLaren — it’s a dream project,” R H U D E founder and creative director Rhuigi Villaseñor says on the label’s website. “The R H U D E x McLaren collaboration will reimagine the sport and modern luxury into an innovative and progressive collection.”
