For her third runway show as creative director of Fenty x Puma, Rihanna staged the fashion showdown students have dreamed of holding in the hallways, and reinvented the traditional school uniform as we know it.

Transforming the grand multi-level atrium of Paris’s Richelieu-Louvois Library into the modern student’s stomping ground was one of the most inspired choices of Fashion Month—and so was starting the show a full half-hour behind schedule, much like how ten minutes late has become the new on-time for students. Rambunctious teens of all styles took over the book-lined hallways before the show kicked off, watching over the runways like the cool kids who pretend not to care, but are completely interested.

The tone was set when model Slick Woods came out from the wall of blue lockers in plaid shorts and an oversized puffer coat, revealing a machine gun chest tattoo. When Rihanna is the principal, any dress code goes out the window. Every stereotypical clique was represented in the show, from the pep rally leaders to the quarterbacks to the goth kids, each look re-envisioned with Rihanna’s lounge-y edge.

Prep school motifs came back in full force, with Fenty School monograms and #13 patches lining tracksuits, jerseys, and even basketball shorts (leave it to Riri to make even those look chic). These are the clothes Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash could have only dreamed of wearing at Bronson Alcott High School. The only thing missing was Rihanna’s take on the classic letterman jacket, a serious oversight in an otherwise brilliant collection.

As usual, the shoes that stomped atop the library tables were the pieces that stole the show. Her now-signature Creepers were updated in a neon plaid hue, while the thigh-highs were laced up and made varsity-appropriate. She also introduced another shoe to the Fenty repertoire: rainboots, stretched out and extended to the thigh, marking what is likely the most practical Rih footwear yet.

Rihanna has proven herself to be capable of pulling off absolutely anything, and the same is becoming true for her runway shows. Gossip Girl was never this stunning.

See previews of the show below and come back soon to peep the full collection.
