Rihanna’s Charity Contributes $5 Million to Coronavirus Relief Efforts

In response to the coronavirus, Rihanna is expanding the foundation’s aid to a global scale with numerous initiatives to help fight the pandemic.

Founded in 2012 by Rihanna, the Clara Lionel Foundation typically aids Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa nations when natural disasters strike. In response to the coronavirus, Rihanna is expanding the foundation’s aid to a global scale with numerous initiatives to help fight the pandemic.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, this pandemic will affect us all. And for the world’s most vulnerable, the worst may be yet to come,” reads the foundation’s announcement.

With $5 million pledged, the initiatives are primarily focused on protecting frontline healthcare workers and marginalized communities around the globe. These include food banks serving the hardest-hit communities and the elderly, increased testing, care, and healthcare worker training in countries like Haiti and Malawi and for Native communities, protective equipment for frontline health workers and diagnostic labs, establishing and maintaining intensive care units, and accelerating vaccine development.

Rihanna and the Clara Lionel Foundation ultimately recognize that the best way to slow down this pandemic is through preparedness while making sure the world’s marginalized communities receive equal and adequate care.
