Rina Sawayama to Make Film Debut in ‘John Wick: 4’ Opposite Keanu Reeves
Rina Sawayama on the big screen? Yes please.
Japanese-British singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama will star opposite Keanu Reeves in the newest installment of the John Wick movies, John Wick: Chapter 4, according to Deadline. This will be Sawayama’s first film credit – and Lionsgate is keeping the details of her role quiet.
The film will be shot on location this summer in Germany, France and Japan, and will be directed by Chad Stahelski, with a script from Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. Producers include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Stahelski, with Reeves and Louise Rosner serving as the executive producers.
Not much else is known about Sawayama’s part, other than that those involved are excited to have her star in the movie.
“I’m so glad to have Rina on board to make her feature film debut in John Wick: Chapter 4,” said Stahelski, in reports by Deadline. “She’s an incredible talent who’ll bring so much to the film.”
But this is not Sawayama’s first gig outside of music.
To launch her career fresh out of Cambridge University, where she studied politics, philosophy and sociology, Sawayama dabbled in modelling. Using the money she earned, Sawayama wrote and released an EP, whose eclectic and unique sound caught the attention of listeners and record labels alike.
In 2020, she signed with Dirty Hit records, a British independent label. Shortly after, she released her critically-acclaimed debut album Sawayama, which features hit songs “STFU!”, “Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)”, and “XS”. Combining elements of early 2000s R&B, rock, heavy metal and pop, Sawayama’s music is unlike anything you’ll hear anywhere else.
Sawayama is no stranger to collaborating with big names in the industry.
Earlier this year Sawayama re-recorded her popular song, “Chosen Family”, as a duet with Elton John, leading to the release of the deluxe version of Sawayama. She will headline her first world tour later this year.
Rina Sawayama is represented by Scott Melrose at Paradigm, Tom Windish at Wasserman Music, Will Frost & Caspar Harvey at House of Us, Tom Mehrtens & Mofe Sey at Satellite414, and Emily Mullen at Orienteer, according to Deadline.
