Ronnie Fieg Returns To 8th Street
Check out his collaboration with Clarks footwear.
Ronnie Fieg, famed designer and founder of Kith, has returned to his roots. That is, the ‘90s shoe that first premiered at Fieg’s 8th St store, selling out in 24 hours. In a collaboration with Clarks footwear, Fieg returns to this design pattern for a limited drop of four shoe styles. A triumphant return to form, Fieg harnesses a retro look to show the progression of sneaker design. And who doesn’t want a bit of ‘90s nostalgia?
The collection itself features four independent designs, made up of three sneakers and one boto. First up is the Lockhill ($220), an autumnal low-sole shoe with vintage suede white detailing. Next is the Sandford ($220), a monochrome sneaker inspired by Clarks’ first London warehouse. The last of the sneakers, the Breacon ($230) provides greater support for the athletic, trailblazing shoe consumer. Finally, the Radlett ($230) offers a Chelsea Boot with the classic pull-on strap in colorways of dull green and yellow. All of these boots harken back to the original aesthetics of Fieg’s 8th Street location, while merging in some brand vision from Clarks.
The collection is also definitively seasonal, built in almost entirely autumnal hues. Warm colors pulse throughout Fieg’s works, perfectly correlating to the changing of the leaves. Though the sneakers can be worn year-round, they are clearly inspired by those beautiful sensibilities of Fall.
A trip down memory lane, the 8th street collection is certain to perk up the ears of those with a taste for the retro, the vintage. Still, the shoes are not “old-souled.” No, they maintain a certain modernism while calling back to those foregone aesthetic choices. Fieg has successfully fused the old with the new, forging a new pathway in shoe design.
