In 2017, Public Hotel was opened by Ian Schrager, and it quickly became a hotspot on the edge of the Lower East Side. Outside of providing accommodations and Jean-Georges Vongerichten-operated restaurants, it has maintained its status as a popular event and party spot—and the setting for the perfect escalator selfie. But for the winter season, New Yorkers can find a cozy, rooftop igloo at Public.

At the “luxury for all” hotel, the rooftop offers the lush greenery associated with the venue, as well as dim lighting, abundant candles and cozy seating areas that are ideal for gathering in groups. But it’s easy to miss the details when the view from each igloo includes the panoramic Manhattan skyline.
A wintry cocktail menu includes a spiked hot chocolate and is offered on the rooftop this season. Chocolate and cheese fondues are available for the group, as well as more meaty entrees like a lamb shank and seared branzino. Igloos can be reserved throughout the winter season and can accommodate up to ten people. The rooftop opens at 5pm every day.
