As fears of the coronavirus outbreak ensue worldwide, RuPaul’s DragCon LA 2020 announced on Tuesday that the event will be canceled this year. The convention was meant to occur from May 1-3, but the RuPaul’s Drag Race-affiliated occassion is sashaying away from COVID-19 as a safety measurement.

A statement from RuPaul’s DragCon was posted online about the cancellation: “DragCon’s first priority is always the health and safety of everyone involved and we’ve been actively tracking the situation around the coronavirus. The situation in California (and the world) is rapidly changing, with new information coming out everyday.”

The LA event also claimed that DragCon will “return in 2021, better than ever,” and that the convention is currently working with Eventbrite to distribute refunds.

With the recent cancellations of Ultra Music Festival and Coachella, DragCon LA is another high-profile event responding to the persistent coronavirus issue.
